From Galataport to the Biennial Trails: Explore the 18th Istanbul Biennial on Foot
Since 1987, the Istanbul Biennial has held a unique place in the city’s cultural calendar. This year’s 18th edition, titled The Three-Legged Cat, brings together 47 artists from over 30 countries between September 20 and November 23, 2025. Spanning eight different venues across the Beyoğlu–Karaköy district, the biennial presents not only exhibitions but also performances and film screenings.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the Biennial is the chance it offers to discover the city by walking through it. At the very heart of this route lies Galataport Istanbul. Before heading to the next exhibition, you can pause at the Paket Postanesi for a coffee with a view of the Bosphorus, enjoy the waterfront, and then step right back into the world of contemporary art just a few steps away.
Elhamra Han
Built in 1827 as one of the city’s earliest theaters, Elhamra Han is joining the Biennial circuit for the first time this year. On its second floor, works by Mona Benyamin, Şafak Şule Kemancı, Jagdeep Raina, and many others are on display.
Garden of the Former French Orphanage
