Gleams Rising from Anatolia
Paket Postanesi, Upper Floor
September 28 – October 6
As part of the Istanbul Culture Road Festival, the “Jewelry Craftsmanship” collection is inspired by the historical and cultural treasures of Anatolia and aims to showcase Diyarbakır’s rich artisanal heritage to the world. Each piece of jewelry carries the legends echoing through the streets of Diyarbakır, with stories engraved into stones and metal.
Traditional Jewelry Craftsmanship
The earliest examples of the art of traditional jewelry craftsmanship date back to ancient times. It is known that the Sumerians worked with gold and silver in the city of Ur in Mesopotamia around 4000-3500 BC. Archaeological excavations have uncovered many examples of ornaments from this period, such as earrings, necklaces, collars, and hairpins. Ornaments from Sumerian, Egyptian, Minoan, Mycenaean, Phoenician, Assyrian, and Etruscan civilizations are displayed in museums worldwide. Curated by M. Nasuh Ortak, this exhibition can be visited for free throughout the festival at Paket Postanesi, Upper Floor, from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
