🎶 About the Artists of Galataport Jazz
Selen Beytekin
Selen Beytekin began her classical piano education at the age of eight and, thanks to her remarkable talent, continued her training under the mentorship of world-renowned pianist Ergican Saydam as his private student—an education equivalent to a conservatory program. During her high school years, she sang in a cappella choirs and later founded and conducted her own ensembles. While pursuing a double major in Mathematics Engineering at Istanbul Technical University (ITU), she wrote a master's thesis in architecture titled "The Mathematical Analysis of Jazz and Its Connection to Fractal Geometry". This work has since been cited in numerous interdisciplinary academic studies. Alongside her musical career, she hosted the TV show "Selen Beytekin ile Müzik Sahnesi" on NTV and presented her own radio programs for years on Joy FM, NTV Radio, and Flow Radio. Having collaborated with some of Turkey's most respected jazz musicians, Selen Beytekin has performed across all major festivals and performance venues in the country, while also giving concerts abroad. In parallel with her music career, she continues to work professionally and provide consultancy in the construction industry.
Oscar Jerome
Singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer Oscar Jerome first emerged from London’s vibrant music scene. A former member of the well-known group Kokoroko, Jerome has developed a bold and sensitive songwriting style. His most recent album The Fork, entirely self-produced and released in April, serves as a continuation of The Spoon, exploring themes of growth and pivotal life decisions—just like the proverbial fork in the road.
Benjamin Clementine
Widely acclaimed as one of the most talented songwriters of his generation, Benjamin Clementine is a British composer, pianist, poet, and actor. Honored with the title of Knight of Arts and Letters by the French government, Clementine gained international attention with his poetic piano ballads in his debut EP released in 2013. His first full-length album At Least for Now in 2015 marked a powerful entry into the music scene. With his captivating stage presence and profound lyrics, Clementine promises an unforgettable experience for the audience.
Elif Çağlar
A pioneering artist in Türkiye’s jazz landscape, Elif Çağlar is the first Turkish graduate of Queens College, where she studied under jazz legend Sheila Jordan. Known for releasing original jazz songs in English, Çağlar has produced and arranged nearly all of her albums herself. While mentoring young musicians across Europe, she continues to collaborate with leading names in Turkish jazz and explore new musical genres beyond jazz.
Emma Smith
With stage performances ranging from the O2 Arena to leading jazz clubs in New York—and collaborations with Michael Bublé, Robbie Williams, Georgie Fame, and Seal—Emma Smith has established herself as a powerful voice in the British jazz scene. Her new solo album, released after a 10-year break, showcases both her extraordinary talent and her unique vocal identity, poised to leave a lasting impression on the European and global music scenes.
Richard Bona
A Grammy Award-winning artist, Richard Bona is one of the most acclaimed bass guitarists, composers, and multi-instrumentalists in the world. Known for blending African heritage into his unique sound and vocal style, Bona’s music reflects the traditions, beauty, and challenges of his continent. His expressive musical storytelling and strong connection with audiences have made him a cornerstone of global jazz and Afro-pop.
