A Vibrant Journey into Jazz…
International Jazz Day, celebrated every year on April 30th, honors the universal impact and unifying power of jazz music. This year, Doğuş Square is hosting a vibrant jazz program to mark the occasion.
Jazz is a rich part of American culture, originating from New Orleans and spreading worldwide, drawing its roots from African rhythms, European harmonies, and the American experience. It is this complexity that makes it so captivating. Every note, every beat tells a different story.
Jazz stands out for its rhythmic complexity, emotional depth, and originality, making it captivating. Each note and beat tell a unique story. Jazz, known for its sub-genres like swing, bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, modal jazz, and free jazz, frequently employs instruments such as the piano, trumpet, saxophone, double bass, and drums. More than merely a musical genre, jazz embodies a lifestyle and culture. It serves as a medium for people to express their emotions, social experiences, and worldviews.
The journey begins with striking trumpet notes, often accompanied by a piano or the rhythmic beats of drums in the background. Jazz transports you to another world, no matter where you are. Jazz's energy, freedom, and intimacy unite people, catering to everyone's tastes. The Galataport Jazz event series is inspired by these aspects of jazz, drawing upon its essence.
On April 30th, the first of the Galataport Jazz events took place at Doğuş Square as part of World Jazz Day. With the stage of Selen Beytekin and the Big Band orchestra, Doğuş Square welcomed a crowd of music lovers starting from 8:00 PM.
During the event, attendees experienced the vibrant street carnival of New Orleans, fitting the Mardi Gras concept, while enjoying "soul food" flavors. They also listened to beloved jazz pieces like "New York, New York" and danced to Ferit Odman's drum performance accompanying Selen Beytekin.
Sponsored by Volkswagen, with support from D-ream, Frederique Constant, Kiko Milano, and Doğuş Sigorta, the event also announced the program for the International Galataport Jazz Festival on June 8-9.
Don't forget to mark your calendars for the festival, which will be open to everyone and free of charge!
