Traditional Turkish Desserts and Turkish Delights at Galataport
Istanbul’s rich dessert culture forms an important part of the city’s culinary heritage, with baklava, Turkish delight, milk-based desserts, and traditional confectionery among its most established specialities. Made from recipes passed down and refined over centuries, these delicacies have earned a distinctive place in Istanbul’s gastronomic tradition.
At Galataport Istanbul, a selection of dessert and confectionery destinations showcases classic recipes alongside contemporary interpretations. Pistachio baklava, kadayıf, Turkish delight, ice cream desserts, and nut-based specialities offer a varied look at the city’s enduring dessert traditions.
Hafız Mustafa 1864
A long-established name in Turkish dessert culture, Hafız Mustafa 1864 serves pistachio baklava, şöbiyet, kadayıf, Turkish delight, and a range of traditional milk-based desserts. Its selection also includes “Dubai Gecesi,” a more contemporary creation distinguished by its rich pistachio flavour and crisp texture. The menu spans familiar Turkish classics as well as more recent interpretations.
Şekerci Cafer Erol
One of Istanbul’s historic confectionery houses, Şekerci Cafer Erol has carried its centuries-old family recipes into the present using traditional production methods. Its Gurme Fitil and Sarma Lokum ranges incorporate Antep pistachios, natural flavours, and a variety of ingredients. Flavoured with orange, pomegranate, and saffron, these specialities offer distinctive takes on classic Turkish delight.
Baylan
Founded in 1923, Baylan Pastanesi returns to Karaköy, where the brand first began, with its Galataport Istanbul location. Kup Griye, made according to the same recipe since 1954, remains among Baylan’s best-known classic desserts.
Vanilla and caramel ice cream are layered with praline, whipped cream, and caramel sauce to create Kup Griye, a signature from Baylan’s pastry-making history that continues to be served today.
İstinyemiş
İstinyemiş brings together nuts, dried fruit, handmade Turkish delight, spices, and specialty herbal teas, with its lokum range featuring a variety of flavours. Nut-filled fitil and sarma Turkish delights infused with natural flavours such as orange, pomegranate, and saffron offer contemporary takes on the classic recipe.
The combination of nuts and natural flavours gives these varieties their distinctive character while retaining the essence of traditional Turkish delight.
Divan Pastaneleri
Set within the historic Paket Postanesi building on the Karaköy waterfront, Divan Galataport combines Divan’s longstanding pastry tradition with its modern “Divan at the Port” concept. The venue features an interior reflecting the character of the historic building, along with a waterfront terrace, and serves a selection of classic Divan Pastaneleri desserts.
Divan Rokoko, one of the brand’s signature desserts, has been made according to the same recipe since 1956. Its semifreddo texture, ice cream base, and chocolate flavour have made it a classic of Divan’s pastry repertoire, with the recipe preserved across generations.
Traditional Turkish desserts, Turkish delight, and confectionery can be found across Galataport Istanbul’s dessert destinations. Hafız Mustafa 1864, Şekerci Cafer Erol, Baylan, İstinyemiş, and Divan Pastaneleri each offer a selection of desserts and Turkish delight inspired by different traditions and recipes.
